Tarragona

Alghero’s first twinning was with the city of Tarragona in 22 September 1972.

Tarragona is located in Costa Daurada, in the North-East of Spain, is the second biggest city of Catalonia and is defined as the “Balcony of the Mediterranean”. One of its main streets, Rambla Nova, in fact, ends in a long balcony from which it is possible to admire an invaluable landscape.

Its origin is Roman, and since 2000 it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Associació Els Amics de l’Alguer de Tarragona, founded in 2009, promotes and fortifies the links between the two cities.
